The Superpowers World Tour made a stop in Phoenix on September 24th, with amazing performances by headliner Daniel Caesar, and opener Orion Sun. With the weather starting to cool down in the Phoenix area, fans were ready for both acts, with the general admission pit being almost full before Orion Sun even took the stage.
Orion Sun brought the energy to Arizona Financial Theater to prepare the crowd for Daniel Caesar. Screams erupted through the building as she took the stage with her band, and the fans knew immediately that they were in for a great night of music. Her energy and smiling face was transferred straight to the crowd and the vibes were off the charts. The entire crowd was so tuned in to her performance, they almost did not recognize that she was able to change it up and play some of her own slower songs, including her hit song, "Dirty Dancer." before they knew it, it was the end of Orion Sun's set, and it was time for the one and only Daniel Caesar.
Before taking the stage, there was a live-shot feed of Daniel Caesar walking through the back halls of Arizona Financial Theater to the stage. This helped build the anticipation that the crowd was feeling even more. The moment he took the stage, the background music of the opening song, "Ocho Rios," could not even be heard over the crowds' excited yells and screams. This was the exact moment that most of the crowd had been waiting for since the tour was first announced a few months ago. The 28 year old singer had fans of all ages enjoying his music, side by side with each other throughout the entire building for a full couple of hours.
The stage was now set with the band and the fog machines rolled out as much fog as they could. The projectors on stage changed to images of the sky, and just like that, everyone was transported to the top of the world. We were in for the performance of a lifetime, and Daniel took the stage.
For the first three songs, the stage was set with a curtain that gave us just a silhouette of Daniel, with just a few glimpses of him through small openings. After the third song, the curtain dropped and the crowd was blessed with a stellar show by the man they came to see. The multi-talented Daniel Caesar even switched it up and slowed it back down by playing the piano to the hit track "Loose." Whether it was the upbeat, acoustic, or instrumental performances, the crowd definitely got what they came to see, plus more. By the end of the night, there was not a dry eye left in the building.
